The Friends’ Corner Bookshop
Our bookshop shelves are packed with great books many of which are new, all of which are clean and presentable. History, cooking, fiction, non-fiction, current best sellers and so much more! Our selection is constantly revolving. Most books are priced at $1 to $5.
We are currently open Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 2pm to 5pm. Enter at the north end of the John Steinbeck Library, next to the parking lot.

The Friends’ Book Depot at The Train Station “Heritage Center”
When the Salinas train station was rebuilt in 1942, the area that is now FOSPL Book Depot was a baggage holding center. When FOSPL took over the space for book storage, the volunteers did an outstanding job of revamping the space to make it user friendly for our patrons at our bi-monthly book sales.
The first Salinas train depot was erected in early 1873 and contained a waiting room, baggage room, ticket office and freight bay. In 1905, Southern Pacific constructed one of its traditional, standardized “Colonnade” style depots so named for the columned porches that sheltered passengers.

Books are displayed on outdoor tables as well as inside at the FOSPL SATURDAY SALE at the Book Depot.

The Friends Bookshop & Book Depot are much appreciated by our community and the library as all sales go directly to the library for items and programs not in their budget…
We are in need of more volunteers to work in the bookshop so we can open every day except Sunday.
If you like working with people and love books, we need your help. Shifts are 3 hours, once a week minimum. Contact a volunteer in the bookshop or email us if you can donate a few hours a week to your community. We’ll train you to clean and file books and work a simple cash register.
