The Salinas Public Library’s 2024 Kinder Boot Camp was a success!

Soon-to-be students were introduced to classroom routines while promoting social interaction, language and self-regulation skills. The program is open to all incoming, first-year kindergarten students and incoming transitional kindergarten (TK) students, especially to those with limited preschool exposure. These camps are hosted at El Gabilan and Cesar Chavez Library a few weeks prior to the start of the new school year.

The Kinder Boot Camp is made possible by a generous grant from the Pebble Beach Foundation and additional support from FOSPL. The Friends of the Salinas Public Library is able to sponsor this program every year thanks to the donations received and continued support of FOSPL’s Bookshop, Book Depot Sales as well as other sales and events.

The 3rd Annual FOSPL Sip & Paint was SIPsational!

FOSPL's 3nd Annual Sip & Paint was a sold-out event! Our theme this year was centered on Steinbeck's book: The Log from the Sea of Cortez. Participants enjoyed painting a version of the book cover while Dr. Rebecca Mostow from Western Flyer Foundation gave a presentation on the history and renovation of the Western Flyer, the name of the boat taken on the trip to the Sea of Cortez by Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts.

Monterey County Gives

The Friends of the Salinas Public Library, represented by Mary Alicia McRae presented a check for over $8200 to the Interim SPL Deputy Director, Francis Hebert. The money was raised during MC Gives. The money is to be spent on books for patrons registered in library programs, and for residents who will keep these books forever.
